Giving Thanks!
November 25, 2017
Thanksgiving is the holiday that resonates, this year, for
me. I am overwhelmed with the urge to get a tattoo that says: Carpe’ diem! Sixteen
friends and family sat at our harvest table yesterday! We missed you Jake, and those who didn't make it this year! Family, some old
friends, and some new. We ate too much, and my goal was to host as many Pilgrims
and Indians as would come! I vow to live each day, and not wish a minute away.
I will not take a second for granted.
The birth of our baby Lucas, is a wonderful reminder of our
immortality, and he shines like a hopeful beacon pointing towards the future! His
brilliant smile reminds me how innocence is bliss, and allows me to seize an
opportunity to mold this young man into the type of human we all aspire to be!
He is like a sponge, absorbing everything around him. He loves everyone, no
judgement, no racism, no negativity! I just want him to grow up with those
values in his heart and mind. Hungry, sleepy, lonely, bored, or in need of a
change. If those needs are met, he’s all good!
This year has also come with reminders of our mortality. We
have lost special friends, and the number of us with health challenges seems to
never end. We are way too young to be fighting back the hands of time! We were
snotty kids, moody teens, arrogant young adults not too long ago. I sometimes
get a glimpse in the mirror and think: “What the heck happened?”
The best is yet to come! I am focusing on the abundance that
overflows here in my world! I am the luckiest person on the planet. I will
never be wealthy, but I am rich in so many ways (my kids have assured me that I
won’t eat cat food, or live in a smelly nursing home)! Today both of my
daughters live within an hour of me. My grandson, Lucas is with me often, and I
truly enjoy the people Erika and Briana have become!
I am blessed with a circle
of GREAT friends! Some of them have been with me for going on 40 years, and
some have entered our circle recently. All of you are special and make my life
complete! I am trying to keep the door open, but I am afraid I am going to have
to put an addition on the porch soon! My health is not perfect, but I am resolute
that aches and pains won’t stop me from traveling to new places, and
experiencing people and seeing new things!
From this day forward, I am going to eat the cake, buy the
shoes, and love the people that make it all worthwhile! I hope you all will
too!
