VOTE!

We voted today. I have not missed an election since I cast my first vote for McGovern. Being from NY it is very weird to be able to vote early. Having heard about filing cabinets full of uncounted absentee ballots during the last two stolen elections in Florida, I was understandably leery of voting early. The Obama campaign, however, has urged us to vote early, so I hope all of our votes will be counted this time. If the type of foolishness that occurred here during Gore’s win/loss/win/loss happened in another country I’m sure that we would be the first country to send troops to “liberate” those poor voters, robbed of their democratic rights. Who will liberate us if it happens again? It was my honor to cast my vote today for Barack Obama.

I have found a few bastions of Liberal philosophical thinkers near and about the Villages. I have been sporadically attending services on Sundays at a nice Unitarian Universal Church recently opened near the Marion Market. The Tri-County Democrats are a spunky, visible, active bunch. They have reminded me that the Republican majority here is a mere 51% (33% Dems,16% other).

Beth and I share an interest in things metaphysical and we have found a nice group of like minded people who meet for a monthly discussion at a place called All About Art in Belleview. Beth’s friend Vicky teaches several classes there. We took a bus trip last year to Cassadaga, a nearby spiritual community that reminded me of a similar community in NY called Lillydale.

I take Yoga through the college from a wonderful couple, Jack & Corin Krier. This is a gift I give myself every week. She has the voice of an angel and the quiet peace they radiate, inspires me. I have also heard that an interesting group of free thinkers have formed a philosophy club that I might look into.

This place has something for everyone, even a (gasp) Liberal Democrat from NY!
