I didn’t blog last night as I was trying to listen to the VP debate. This is a scary time with all the trouble we are up to our necks in Sarah is still a serious contender for the 2nd most powerful position in the world. Darn right.
Back to the Village journey: We had our place rented for most of the first year. With the big house up north still hitting my pocket book hard, we thought it best to limit our expenses in Florida while we prepared to retire. We did come down for April and May that year.
My friend Beth and her boyfriend Ron came down on a mission. She had decided the Villages could be the place for her and Ron. She, like most in our group, had a plan to work another decade. But life sometimes throws you a curve ball. She began an organized assault on the task at hand. Buy a place in 5 days.
We visited open houses, combed the Daily Sun cruised around looking for “sale by owner homes”. They also liked the Historic side. She had lists, evaluations and finally found a site built that she liked, and then promptly bought an adorable double wide about 2 blocks from us. She returned home, sold her house and made plans to move to the Villages right after she retired.
Ron and Beth were great additions to our posse’. Ron and the guys hit it off right away; they were as crazy as we were. We laughed about the diverse offering of clubs for us in the Villages. Something for everyone it seemed. We kidded that the only club we did not see offered was the pot smoking, wife swapping club. Now I read in Leisureville that one does exist under the cover of the wine tasting club. Ron’s colorful vocabulary sometimes shocked the quiet locals and it was noted that certain words served him as descriptive for all occasions. The suckers club was born.
After several months in the healing sun, my heart condition took an unexpected turn for the better. My doctor was amazed, and I returned to work to wrap up a 30 year career in the auto industry.
